Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College Student Transfer Requirements

The University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ and Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College (BSC) have created a Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") to clearly articulate to BSC students any changes to any of the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s published transfer requirements which apply to BSC students.

How to Apply? 
For transfer applicants previously admitted to the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ:
  • In lieu of submitting the Transfer Common Application, request and submit a transfer reapply form from the office of admission at admiss@sewanee.edu by the June 1 deadline, with priority consideration given to those who apply by May 1.
  • Submit Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College transcript.
  • College Report/Statement of Good Standing - the Dean of Students or equivalent official at Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College should email a completed copy of this form to admiss@sewanee.edu. (May be waived upon review of Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College transcript.)
For all other Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College transfer applicants:
  • Complete the Common Application for Transfer by the deadline of June 1, with priority consideration given to those who apply by May 1.
  • Submit Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College transcript.
  • College Report/Statement of Good Standing - the Dean of Students or equivalent official at Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College should email a completed copy of this form to admiss@sewanee.edu. (May be waived upon review of Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College transcript.)
  • Final High School Transcript (May be waived upon review of Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College transcript.)
Credit Evaluation and Transfer

Transfer applicants to the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ may request a transfer credit evaluation for admission by contacting the Office of Admission at admiss@sewanee.edu prior to submitting their application.

  • Up to 96 credits may be transferred from Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College, with a minimum grade of C-. If a student has additional transferable credits from another institution or AP/IB, those credits may also be transferred, within the 96 credit limit.
  • Coursework taken at Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College in a subject area not offered at The University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ may be considered for transfer as general elective credits toward the total required for degree conferral.
Residency Requirement and General Education
  • All students will be required to spend their final 2 semesters in residence at the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ.
  • Any student with 96+ transferable credits will need a minimum of 32 credits earned at the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ.
  • Any students with 64 to <96 transferable credits will need a minimum of 48 credits earned at the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, allowing for a single semester to be taken Abroad/Away.
  • Any student with fewer than 64 transferable credits will need a minimum of 64 credits earned at the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ.
  • Any student who has completed the stated Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College General Education requirements prior to matriculation at the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ will be considered as having met the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ General Education requirements.
  • Any student who has NOT completed the stated Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College General Education requirements will be held to the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ General Education requirements in effect as of the term of their admission. Considerable latitude shall be given in the evaluation of Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College completed coursework as meeting the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ General Education requirements.
Scholarship and Financial Aid Consideration
Merit Scholarship Consideration:

For transfer applicants previously admitted to the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ: First year scholarships previously awarded upon admission to the University of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ will be honored and at a minimum awarded for students successfully admitted for Fall 2024 entry.

For all other Birmingham-²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵern College transfer applicants: Transfer students will be eligible for merit scholarships consideration, commensurate with their academic performance. Merit scholarships range from $10,000 to $30,000 per year.

Financial Aid Consideration:

Need-based applicants should complete the FAFSA and CSS Profile by June 1. Sewanee's school code is 003534. Applicants who have already submitted their FAFSA can update it by the first half of April with our school code.
